How to make drink syrups
Handmade drink syrups have become rather trendy and often come with a high price tag when you’re out on the town. Turn coffee, tea, steamed milk, sparkling water or a cocktail into an extra-special drink by making your own syrups at home!
Honey Ginger Syrup
In a saucepan, bring 1-1/4 cups sugar, 1-1/4 cups water and 1/4 cup each chopped fresh ginger and liquid honey to a boil over medium heat, stirring often until sugar is dissolved. Boil for 1 minute. Remove from heat; cover and let stand for 1 hour or up to 8 hours. Strain through fine-mesh sieve into liquid measure or pitcher; discard solids. Pour syrup into glass bottles or canning jars; seal with lids. Refrigerate for up to 1 month. Makes about 2 cups.
Orange Syrup
In saucepan, bring 1-1/2 cups sugar and 1-1/2 cups water to a boil over medium heat, stirring often until sugar is dissolved. Boil for 1 minute. Using vegetable peeler, peel strips of zest from 1 orange, avoiding pith; add zest to saucepan.
