5 delicious ways to use apples in your fall menu
Fall is famously apple harvest season, so you may have a lot of this delicious fruit lying around but are running out of ideas for what to do with them.
Not to fear, however, as apples can be used in a multitude of recipes besides pies!
Here are 5 surprising ways to use this fall fruit in this season’s menu:
1. Pork chops with peppered apples
Fast-fry pork chops topped with peppered apples and served with warm chard slaw makes for a quick and impressive meal that won't break the bank. Serve with crusty bread.
2. Apple Phyllo Strudel
Ground almonds not only add flavour to the filling but also help soak up the sweet juices from the apples. Phyllo pastry makes a great and substantially less labour-intensive alternative to strudel pastry. If your apples are especially juicy, there may be extra liquid in the filling that could make the strudel soggy, so scoop the apples from the bowl and leave any juice behind.
3. Curried apple and celery soup

The nutty flavour of celery root (sometimes called celeriac) combines with apples to make this fine soup mildly perfumed with curry. It's delightful to look at in wide old-fashioned soup bowls or glass cups. Choose a juicy apple such as Gravenstein, Spartan or McIntosh for this recipe.
4. Apple plum raisin strudel

This adaptation of an old family recipe comes from food writer Adell Shneer. The strudel combines the seasonal flavours of apples and plums and uses oil instead of butter to keep it non-dairy — perfect to serve after a meat-based Rosh Hashanah lunch or dinner.
5. Beet and apple soup
