Cut apples into 1/2-inch (1 cm) thick slices; set aside.In blender or food processor, blend 2 tbsp (25 mL) of the butter, eggs, flour, milk, sugar and salt until smooth. Set batter aside.
In 10-inch (25 cm) cast-iron or heavy ovenproof skillet, heat remaining butter over medium heat; cook apples, brown sugar and cinnamon, stirring occasionally, until golden and tender, 15 minutes.
Pour batter over apples. Bake in 425°F (220°C) oven until puffed and edge is browned, about 20 minutes.
If desired, invert onto serving plate, scraping any remaining apples and syrup onto puff. Serve immediately.
