Holiday gift idea: Foodie gift boxes
When in doubt during the holiday shopping season, opt for food. Call me biased, but, in my book, you usually can't go wrong when you pick an edible gift for that one person on your list that's really impossible to shop for. This year, I discovered a Canadian company called
Foodie Pages which packages gourmet food gift boxes. I love the concept: a selection of hand-picked products, from local and small-scale food producers around the country that are shipped right to your doorstep.
I tested their
Taste of Ottawa Box which is filled with a variety of goodies from mixed berry jam, to
dulce de leche, hazelnuts cookies, quinoa crackers, chai tea, raw honey and barrel-aged maple syrup. It's a delicious way to support local food producers and discover new gourmet products. My favourite from the selection?
Carolina's creamy dulce de leche -- this creamy, sweet milky concoction makes a spectacular spread for toast,
waffles or crepes but is just as delicious enjoyed right out of the jar.
