How Often Should You Wash Your Jeans?

Comfortable, versatile, and durable, jeans are a wardrobe must-have. But how often should you wash your favourite pair?

Denim purists agree that frequent washing can alter the texture and colour of jeans. Since denim is a thick and sturdy material, it doesn't need to be washed as frequently as a cotton t-shirt or dress. In fact, excessive washing weakens the fibres and accelerates the wear of the fabric.

So, how often should you wash your jeans?

Unlike many other clothing items, you don't need to wash your jeans after every use. As a general rule, wash them every three to five wears.

If you get a small stain, a simple local cleaning by hand may be enough to remove it. Simply rub the affected area with a little soap and water, then let it air dry.

To truly extend the life of your jeans, you might even opt to wash them once a month—we promise they won't smell!

How to properly wash jeans

To best preserve the colour and shape of your jeans, follow these tips:

  • Turn your jeans inside out before putting them in the machine
  • Wash them at 30°C or 40°C maximum with a low spin
  • Dry flat
  • Avoid tumble drying, which may alter the shape and texture
  • If your jeans are new, wash them with similar colours to avoid bleeding
