Healthiest ingredients for a homemade face mask

Sometimes the healthiest ingredients for our skin are found right in our kitchens. That's what Graydon Moffat discovered when she started making her own skin care products for Graydon Clinical Luxury by Nature. She created the line with real superfoods that you can find in your pantry. "It's about getting away from the fillers that don't feed your skin the nutrition that it optimally needs and putting in and on our bodies what we know is good for us," she explains. When it comes to making face masks, creams and scrubs, she chooses nutrient-dense foods that offer the best benefits for skin.

When making your own face masks at home, not only are you saving money, but you also know exactly what you're putting on your face, and you can combine ingredients that best suit your skin type and preferences. If you're not afraid to get a little messy, your skin will thank you for it.

Here are some of Moffat's favourite ingredients for DIY skin care and homemade face masks.

For moisturizing

The right oil can hydrate your skin beautifully and serve as a good base for a mask or moisturizer. Just do your research before choosing a type of oil. While grapeseed, pumpkin, almond and sunflower oils are all great moisturizing oils, berry seed oils (like raspberry, blueberry and cranberry) and castor oil are actually more tonifying, so they would help remove excess oil on the skin, says Moffat.
