Hat
Stitch side seam and rounded top edge. Turn right side out. Stuff top lightly with fiberfill to make a bun. On outside, tie a strip of black fleece loosely underneath the bun. Fold bottom edge under. Gather front edge vertically and handsew closed for a mock hairdo. Decorate with ribbons, flowers, and chopsticks (or pencils wrapped with paper or ribbon).
Kimono
Cut the kimono from fleece with center back on fold, adjusting the sleeve length for the child. Stitch or hotglue sides and underarms. Trim sleeve ends and front edges with folded strip of black fleece.
Obi
Cut two pattern pieces from fleece to make a soft padding and hotglue together around edges. Cover with decorative fabric, hotgluing edges under. To attach ends at back, add Velcro or fleece strips for ties. Knot two long decorative ribbons together on center front and tie ends together on top of obi at back. From leftover fabrics, sew a large, flat bow and pin at back to cover tie ends.
Safety tip
For a small child, cut the kimono short enough to prevent tripping.
Stitch or hotglue side seam. Pin lower edge to bottom circle and stitch or hotglue the edges together. Fold top edge under about 4” (10cm) and stitch or hotglue closed. Cut small holes below top edge of the bag and insert a cord through the holes for a drawstring. Decorate the bag with flowers and ribbons.
