Company’s coming and you want the table to sparkle. What to do?

Interior decorator Wendy Reimer of Reimer Design and floral designer Eva Cooney of The Cove Classics – both in Oakville, Ont. – show you how to add instant holiday glamour with three all-out gorgeous place-setting toppers in three fabulously festive looks.

Seasonal hues

Reimer layered red jacquard place mats and napkins with gilt-rimmed chargers and pretty plates. On top, gleaming organza bags offer sugarplums (foil-covered chocolates and rosy tree balls). Simple white tea lights, in clear glass containers edged with gold, add a flickering glow. For the centrepiece, Cooney paired plump cream-coloured roses with matching mini ornaments to boost the Christmas colour. Place mats and napkins, To Set a Table. Tea light container, House Warmings.

Stylish and sophisticated

Over the tabletop, Reimer crisscrossed runners of shimmery chocolate silk, which contrast beautifully with the shining silver and crystal and spotless linens. A quick spray of gold lends inexpensive gift boxes a luxurious look. Each one holds a hand-blown ornament, nestled in gold tissue and adorned with a sweet little satin bow, for the guests to take away. Table runners, House Warmings. Napkins, To Set a Table. Candles, Write Impressions.

Pleasant under glass

Cooney’s sunny yellow orchids inspired this lovely holiday luncheon table. Reimer chose an Irish damask cloth woven with a stylized floral pattern in warm tones of goldenrod and wheat. The crowning touch at each setting, personalized by Reimer’s handwritten place cards, is a single orchid with sprigs of boxwood and berries set beneath an upended shrimp bowl. Tablecloth, Lucca. Napkins, To Set a Table.
