I ran into  Kaillie Humphries at the Toronto Pearson Airport. I first noticed the striking blond whom we had been trying to track down to interview for weeks in the lineup to board the same plane. We were both heading to Germany to catch connecting flights — me to Spain, her to Russia. Humphries is not the sort of person to blend in and once I spotted her I had to grab her for a chat. She was a great sport and  squished herself beside my seat on the plane so I could get all the insider info on her Olympic journey. Read on:

1. She wanted to be an Olympic skiier. Kaillie originally wanted to go to the Olympics for skiing. But, she says, at the age of 16, she realized she wasn't going to make it on the slopes so she tried out bobsleigh instead because she thought she'd be good at it. 2. She might look tough but she's actually really girly. "I have half my head shaved and tattoos but I am probably the most girliest girl you could ever meet,” she says. She says she loves makeup, shoes and getting done up—she had some wicked eyelash extensions on when I met her. 3. She got her first tattoo at 18.  When Kaillie made the national bobsleigh team when she was 18 she marked the occasion with her first tattoo. "My tattoos are my hopes, my dreams, my family, places I’ve been and things that mean a lot," she says. Her left leg is tattooed from top to bottom with a memorial piece for her grandparents, she has an Olympic medal on her shoulder, and a portrait of her mom and dad on her arm. 4. She thinks women can be stronger than men. “It’s more acceptable nowadays for women to be in sport and be in that strong leader position,” she says. “In something that was very male dominated like bobsleigh, women are proving to be stronger in aspects than men. I’m going to do everything I can to represent that whole side of it as much as possible.”  5. She wants her own talk show one day.  "I sometimes think that having my own TV show and being like Chelsea Lately but the Canadian version. I feel like I would just kill it with Kaillie Lately."
