Happiness: It's all around us. Really!

It normally takes me about three snooze cycles on the alarm clock to surrender my Zzzs and wake up to a fresh, new day. This morning, however, I woke up before my alarm clock beeped. Wide-eyed and strangely alert, I turned to my Twitter feed to get a sense of what the day had in store for me. Would Toronto Mayor Rob Ford say something even more shocking than his statements from yesterday? (Not possible, right?) What happened around the world while I slept? Did the world become a happier place? Did I have any messages? There wasn't much besides the normal news bites and recaps. But one thing stood out, and clicking on this link has made all the difference in my day, so I want to share it with you today. I follow an online community called Happier. Happier is a social media site aimed at helping us focus on happy things -- things that are positive, lovely and make us feel good. I remember when had I first learned of this community a couple of months back -- I was concerned that we needed a site to remind us to be happy. To be positive. To be grateful. But such is the world we live in, now. So this morning, when I clicked on @Happier's tweet, I expected to find something that would make me smile. What I wasn't expecting was a beautiful Pinterest board, curated with some of the simplest, most obvious facts, statements and quotes -- all keys to leading a happier, more satisfying life. These are some of my favourite happy mantras: . "When I'm inspired, I get excited because I can't wait to see what I'll come up with next." - Dolly Parton . "Enjoy life! This is not a dress rehearsal." - Anonymous . "Happiness is a warm puppy." - Charles M. Schultz (Oh, yes it is! Make sure you head over to meet Bear and Maggie Mae -- our new puppies-in-residence.) . "Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures." - Jackson Brown Jr. . "Be unique. Be what you feel." - Melissa Ethridge So my goal with this series of of Happiness blog posts is to inspire (myself and you) to focus on what's beautiful, bright and happy in this world. Won't you join me? Tell me, what's your happiness mantra? I particularly love this quote by Roald Dahl.
