*UPDATE* - The contest for our giveaway is now over. Please scroll to the bottom of this post to find out who the winner is. With
Valentine's Day around the corner we reached out to our friends on
Facebook with a simple question:
How did you know your partner was the one for you? Not surprisingly, we received some heartfelt and sweet responses that had a lot of us at the office swooning. There's nothing that makes this relationship editor's heart pitter-patter more than
a good love story. I adore how love manifests itself in so many different ways. Whether it's love at first sight or more of a chase, these stories warmed my heart and I hope they'll do the same for you.
"On our first date, he kissed me goodnight. But then, that night, I dreamed I was walking down the aisle at my wedding and it was him at the end. Not love at first sight, since I knew him in high school and we did NOT like each other. But, love at first kiss, for sure." -
Mara
"Not very Canadian, but (I knew) when our third date consisted of him boarding my house for a hurricane. My sister started planning our wedding while he was helping my dad clean up water in the attic after it was damaged in the storm. That was the first day he met my dad." -
Sarah
"When we shared our first cup of Timmies on our first date and we talked so long (6hrs) that they had to ask us to leave because they were closing." -
Makayla
"I knew him 30 years before and we were both married at that time. I met him again after we were both divorced. We were different people back then and by the time we got together again, we had caught up to one another. In our 40s, we loved that we had the same history, benchmarks, etc. and knew we would grow old together." -
Rose
"Met my husband on a blind date 42 years ago and I have said "and I've been blind ever since," meaning there has never been anyone else. We will celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary this year." -
Terrie
"I was 5, he was 7. My grandmother caught him kissing me in the paper bin, so he was taken home to get his punishment. While getting punished he said he didn't care, because he was going to marry me some day. Ten years passed I was now 15, and he was 17, we were dating for about two months, when he turned to me and told me he loved me. I knew it right there that he was the one. A little while later while visiting his grandmother and uncles, we figured out that he and I were the little kids in the paper bin. We have been together ever since. We have four beautiful children and the deepest love for each other, that grows everyday." -
Carrie
"I was caring for a parent who was terminally ill, and my now husband came to help with some of the chores around my parents home that my father could no longer do. We did a lot of casual talking over 3 months or so, and one day, he had his back turned to me, hanging up a curtain, and I just knew." -
Jane
And as always, we love hearing from the men:
"One moonlit April evening, the stars and moon reflected in her lovely browns. I knew at that moment I would spend my days by her side. 16 years of moonlight dancing and stargazing proved my heartfelt hunch." -

The winner of our special giveaway from The Body Shop is Teresa M., who shared this romantic memory with us:
"Michael and I met online June 2010. We have been together ever since. He is gentle and understanding. I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder several years ago. He has helped me achieve goals that I thought were unattainable. He lost his Mother a few months before we met. On our first date, he brought me wildflowers from his Mother's garden and asked if he could kiss me. His first email to me was as poetic as Mr. Wentworth's letter to Anne in 'Persuasion'. He really did have me at 'Hello'."
Congratulations, Teresa! We'll be in touch with you shortly about your prize.
