Le Creuset goes stainless
Stainless steel cookware, from $100-$400 per piece, Le Creuset. Photography courtesy of Le Creuset.
Le Creuset is synonymous with colourful cookware. Although the name conjures up memories of my mom's cast-iron casserole dishes in that iconic burnt orange finish, recent years have seen the brand expand into trendy teal, aubergine and yellow. That's why Le Creuset's latest development is so striking: a totally achromatic line of stainless steel cookware. The forms, with the three-ring lid design that date back to the 1925 originals, are reassuringly familiar; but that chrome-like, polished silver finish is more Jetsons than June Cleaver. And frankly, I love it to bits. Other distinctive features include: * Integrated capacity markings that allow for easy measuring. * Exclusive "stay-cool" handles for comfort and control. * Built-in steam vent to prevent overflow. * Dripless pouring rim with a sealed edge to avoid pitting, pocking and scorching over time. * Optimized for all cooktops (including induction!); and oven-safe to 500 F. * Dishwasher safe.
