Designer's secret: Chevron patterned painter's tape
I whipped up this gorgeous DIY art canvas in under two hours—and that's including the time it took for the paint to dry between coats. Here's how I did it... Photography by Ryan Brook.
Aight. Confession time. If you're a regular visitor to Canadian Living, you'll know I have a serious crush on chevrons. It's a pattern that frequently pops up in my designs, often in the form of DIY art that I've painted onto inexpensive craft store canvasses. But how do I always manage to get such clean lines, you might ask? Well, I don't have a miraculously steady hand, high-end brushes, or infinite patience with painters tape. I have chevron-patterned painter's tape.Photography courtesy of FrogTape.
From the makers of FrogTape painter's tape, this chevon-patterned "ShapeTape" is, quite honestly, a DIY decorator's dream come true. One of my American media contacts shipped me a roll when it first hit the U.S. market last fall, and I've been hassling the brand ever since to bring this amazing product north of the border. And that, ladies and gents, is the reason why I'm revealing my secret weapon at this time: Canadian Tire will be offering chevron-patterned ShapeTape starting in March 2014! Yay! Start brainstorming your chevron-patterned projects now! This simple metal tray gets a glamorous makeover courtesy of chevron-patterned ShapeTape. Photography courtesy of FrogTape.
