Method
In large bowl, beat butter with granulated sugar and brown sugar until light; beat in orange rind and vanilla.In separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt; beat into butter mixture. Stir in chocolate chips and walnuts.
Form into 10-inch (25 cm) long log. Wrap and refrigerate until firm, about 2 hours.
Slice into 1/3-inch (8 mm) thick rounds. Place, 1 inch (2.5 cm) apart, on parchment paper–lined baking sheets.
Bake in 350°F (180°C) oven until golden and firm, about 12 minutes. Let cool on pans on racks for 5 minutes; transfer to racks and let cool completely.
