Miss Piggy: Fashion, Kermit and divas
We caught up with Miss Piggy at a press conference in Toronto, promoting her latest film,
Muppets Most Wanted.
The film follows the Muppets gang as they head off on a global tour of grand theatres around Europe. They soon find themselves embroiled in an international crime caper headed up by The World's Number One Criminal, Constantine, a dead ringer for Kermit the Frog, and his sidekick Dominic Badguy (pronounced "badgee"), portrayed by Ricky Gervais. Other costars include Ty Burrel as an Interpol agent and Tina Fey as a fiesty prison guard. Fiesty, of course, also defines diva Miss Piggy. At the press conference she was asked about her relationship with another icon, Canadian Céline Dion (who appears in the film).
Céline Dion and Miss Piggy "Céline and moi are probably the closest of friends, but we hardly ever talk to each other. We have our people talk to one another...She is wonderful in the movie and she sings pretty good too. I had to go in the studio and double for her on a couple of notes, the high notes." When asked if she could sing with one person, who would it be, she said it would be Judy Garland, "Judy Garland was known for a certain song about a certain rainbow. I would love to sing Kermit's rainbow song "Rainbow Connection" with Judy Garland and Kermit."
Who plays Miss Piggy? We asked Miss Piggy who would play her in a biography about her life, and she responded "Moi, of course." But when pressed she added "Beyoncé." Miss Piggy also spoke about her personal style. "I want to be unique." She shared her favourite fashion moment: In
Muppets Most Wanted she wears a "beautiful, gorgeous, extravagant" wedding dress designed by none other than Vivienne Westwood. And of course, her fabulousness was asked about her relationship with Kermit the Frog. "I knew this question was coming," she said. "I did try to pull the wool over Kermit's eyes in
Muppets Take Manhattan by replacing the actor minister with a real minister...unfortunately he had been defrocked." She adds optimistically, "It's going to happen one day." That's what we love about Miss Piggy; when "Disney's most wanted" diva sets her mind to something, you know it's going to happen.
Muppets Most Wanted opens in theatres across Canada on March 21.
