The Foodie-File: Penticton Farmers Market Opening Weekend
I was lucky enough to be in Penticton on the opening weekend of the farmers market. Not quite is full swing, it was still a great morning to walk around with one of Dana Ewart of Joy Road Catering’s delicious rhubarb tarts in hand checking out the local goods. Big beautiful bunch of sorrel, fresh herbs, dried fruits, delicious baked goods, hand made perogies, and smokey sausages were up for sale the weekend I visited.
Also met Kevin Dunn who had a bone to pick with the local organizers who have banned him from selling his Okanagan Wildbrush Honey because there is already another honey producer who sells at the market (who just happens to be on the market board). Seems rather small minded to me, I wonder when tomatoes and peaches are in season if only one farmer is allowed to sell them…hmmm?

seems to me like that would create somewhat of a monopoly at this little market..and as far as i can remember those aren’t allowed in Canada. Where’s his petition..i would surely sign it!

Jen,
His email is jkevindunn@telus.net. I’m sure he would appreciate any support for his cause. Also the contact for Penticton’s Farmers Market is pentictonfarmersmarket@gmail.com. Otherwise a very nice little market but this did seem to stink!
